Greta talks about Studying Textiles & Fashion
Greta, one of our student ambassadors interviewed her Textiles and Fashion teacher Mrs Beazley, at Whangarei Girls’ High School.
Why did you choose to teach TFT?
“I never thought that I would be a teacher but in my last job working in an art center I started to do some tutoring and it became part of my role that I enjoyed the most.
Really it’s from my personal interest, I just love working with textiles. I really enjoy helping students make things that they can wear and are proud to have in their wardrobe.“
What do you love about teaching TFT?
“Even if a student isn’t planning a career in textiles I think that it offers great live skills of being invested in a project and trying really hard to make it as well as possible. I really like the challenges that students are faced with and the problem solving that they need to implement to work thought it to a good quality outcome.“
Greta’s thoughts on studying Textiles & Fashion
I chose to interview Mrs Beazly because she is one of the nicest persons I’ve ever met. I also just really enjoy TFT because as Mrs Beazly said it teaches you the skill to stick to something even though it seems too hard by times.
I just finished a jacket and honestly there were a few moments I just wanted to cry and give up when I did something wrong and had to open it and do it again but Mrs Beazly did a great job telling me that it is no problem easy to open it up again and that making mistakes are part of the process.
Taking TFT was one of the best decisions I made in new Zealand I am not sure if I want to do something with textiles in my career maybe not but it is so much fun, helps you to get creative and learn different skills such as not giving up when it doesn’t get the way you want it to and patience because all the good things in life take their time.
