Meet Student Ambassador - Zeplynne Lee

Zeplynne is one of our 2020 kiwi ambassadors. He is in his last year of high school at Whangarei Boys High school.

My name is Zeplynne Lee and I am 17 years old. I was born in Auckland, but I was raised in Whangarei since I was 4, and I call it home. I’m in my final year in High School at Whangarei Boys’ High School and am one of the schools prefects. I’m the eldest of 5 with the youngest being 4 years old.

I love being at Whangarei Boys’ High School, the 5 years I’ve been there has gone so fast.  Boys’ High has many opportunities and a great support system for all students. Our school also has international students that want a taste of kiwi life. I’m proud to think Boys’ High gives them an authentic taste of a kiwi high school students’ life, which may be different from theirs back home.

Although I haven’t hosted international students myself, I have had a big part in helping my school with Japanese international students in the past. Our school has good connections with many schools, including those abroad. Whangarei Boys’ High School has a sister school in Japan which I was lucky enough to visit in 2018.

I love being an active part of my school’s community. I love helping others and being kind. I don’t really have a key hobby that I do, but generally like being around others. I’m a real people person. However, I have done lawn bowls, and do netball as a social event which I love. I love learning about other cultures and the differences between our two countries.

Living in Northland is an absolute adventure. We have beautiful beaches and amazing forests. There’s a bit of everything in Northland. Horse riding, swimming, bush walks, diving and sandy beaches are a few of the great things Northland offers. I love walking the bush walks, it gives a sense of freedom from technology and a quiet space to think.
