Meet Student Ambassador - Leo Sidiropoulos
Leo is from Germany and is studying at Whangarei Boys’ High School while living with a host family in Whangarei. He is one of our 2020 Study Northland Student Ambassadors.
What made you choose Northland?
When I was looking for a school in New Zealand I met the international Director of Whangarei Boys High School. She was really nice and she told me quite a lot about Northland and Whangarei. I really liked it and then decided to do my exchange year in Northland.
What do you love most about studying at school in New Zealand?
I really like that I have a big variety of the subjects I can choose. In Germany we can’t choose our subjects except for the last two school years. I enjoy the less academic subjects like outdoor education. I also really like the less formal relationship with the teachers.
What are your favourite experiences in Northland?
My favourite experiences in Northland so far are the many beachtrips I did with my host family. I also really enjoy playing hockey here in Northland because it’s a bit different to hockey in Germany. My hockey has improved a lot.
What is it like living with a homestay family?
I really enjoy living with a Kiwi host family. It’s so nice to do activities and trips with them. It’s a lot of fun and I can just say that I’m really enjoying it.
What are your interests, sports and hobbies?
My hobbies are playing hockey and football. I play both sports in a school team and with friends. I enjoy playing the piano at school. I really like fishing and just being around the sea or just outside with my friends or family.
