Meet Student Ambassador - James

James is a year 11 student from Hong Kong who is studying at Kerikeri High School and living with his Aunt and Uncle. We talked to him about what he enjoys most about school and living in Kerikeri.

What made you choose Northland?

I have family living in New Zealand so I researched schools in both the areas they live in and decided Kerikeri would suit me. I had a 4 week trial at Kerikeri High School in 2018, made some good friends and loved it.

What do you love most about studying at a school in New Zealand?

There is not too much pressure so I have time to play sport and do things I enjoy outside of school. We get to choose whatever we like to study.

What do you like most about Kerikeri High School?

The students are nice and friendly. The facilities are quite new which helps with my learning.

What are your favourite experiences in Northland?

My favourite experience in Northland is visiting different beaches and playing sport . 90 Mile Beach is the best beach I have ever been to . I have the chance to play different kinds of sport in Northland as well.

What are your interests, sports and hobbies?

Football (soccer), badminton, volleyball and basketball. At the moment , I am representing the Kerikeri Football club under 17 grade as goalkeeper. I also participate in different sports teams for school as well as Badminton and Volleyball.

What is your favourite local place to hang out with friends?

I love to hanging around with my friends at the skate park or the Waipapa Sports complex.
