Meet Student Ambassador - Emma Dutton

My name is Emma Dutton, I am 16 yrs old, and attend Tauraroa Area School. I was born in Auckland but now reside in Whangarei, a place I’ve lived for most of my life.

I am a year twelve student at Tauraroa Area School and have loved being at Tauraroa since year three. Tauraroa has given me so many opportunities and I hope others will be able to experience the same. Since then I have been part of multiple sports groups the most recent being part of the girls football team with the football team I have been to the national area school tournament 3 times. Other groups I am currently part of at Tauraroa are, TAS wellbeing team, SADD team, and peer support leader, and the senior choir.

Outside of school I am a volunteer lifeguard at Ruakaka Beach. And I am a competitive swimmer and I swim for Bream Bay swim club. My hobbies (when I have time for them) are singing, and reading.

Over the years me and my family have hosted 2 international students both from Japan. While they don’t stay long I still feel as if they are forever part of our family. While staying with us we try and give them the best Kiwi experience. We take them caving in Waipu caves, swimming at Ruakaka beach, kayaking in the Mangapai estuary, shopping around the town basin for souvenirs, sightseeing throughout Northland, and we live on a farm so they get the classic Kiwi experience.

I hope that, by being a student Ambassador, I will then be able to share our culture and give them the best Northland experience I can. I hope to be able to create an amazing experience for those who travel to the winter less north. 🙂
