Meet Student Ambassador - Clara Heye

Clara is from Germany and is studying at Whangarei Girls’ High School while living with a host family in Whangarei. She is one of our 2020 Study Northland Student Ambassadors.

I chose studying in northland because I love the warm weather and the ocean. And what is better than the beautiful countryside of northland for that.

What made me choose Whangarei Girls High School? 
That is easy to explain. There are so many cool subjects here in the girls high. As well as most schools in New Zealand you can choose  Outdoor Education as one of your extra subjects, but it is extra special to do it here in northland because of the ocean and the countryside. That is what I did and it was a very good decision. We went kayaking and caving and soon we will go rock climbing. I also could choose subjects like hospitality and drama and sooo much more. I’m also a rower and that’s also one the many sports I could choose. This school has so much to offer!

The international team at my school did a great job with finding us the best host family’s. I love staying with them. It is great experience to learn about the kiwi life and about their habits. My host grandparents got a farm with horses. So I also got the chance to learn how to ride a horse. With them I had one of the best experiences I had in my time here. We went up north to their holiday house near the ocean.

But I also had a lot of fun with the other internationals doing activities like going surfing, to Auckland or just hanging out together. Whangarei is a beautiful town to hang out in because we can go to town and go shopping, eat pizza and going for walks at the Harbour.

Northland has something to offer for everyone. And it was the right decision for me to come.
