Kiwi Cooking Class at NorthTec
Fun day out at Northtec Cooking School in July with our student ambassadors and new international students from China and Japan.
Chef Brooke from The Cooking Collective taught us how to make kumara and mushroom pies and then a meringue roulade for dessert. Thanks also to Peter, international cooking school graduate for helping out on the day.
NorthTec student comments…
Students really thought this was a great experience. It was the first time they had tried making a sweet cake and a pie. It was quite different from what they would normally cook – i.e. it was really sweet and the pie had no meat.
They felt there was a good feeling in the room and everyone was enjoying it. They were made to feel welcome and encourage to give it a go and they found they could do it, as long as they listened to the Chef. It was easier to do than they expected as all they had to do was follow the instructions step by step.
They would love to do it again. It’s given them confidence to try a few new things.
