2021 Auckland Tertiary Experience
The idea of our Auckland Tertiary Experience is to give our international high school students a taste of tertiary life and an understanding of the programs, faciliites and student accommodation available at each of Auckland’s university campuses.
We had 17 students from 4 Northland high schools on the trip, a mix of international students from China, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Phillipines and Fiji with some of our kiwi student ambassadors. At AUT, we were met by Pablo from the international team for a welcome and international highlights session followed by an interactive campus tour and activity. We were lucky enough to be able to stay in AUT’s brand new student accommodation – Mayoral Drive Apartments overnight.
After breakfast at one of AUT’s student cafes, we drove to the University of Auckland’s Waipapa Marae for a whakatau and meet and greet with their international team. Student split into their study areas of interest and accompanied lecturers on a faculty tour with the opportunity to chat to tertiary students. We visited the Unleash space and had a tour and then lunch at Waipururu Hall (first year residence halls).
Over the Harbour Bridge next to Massey University’s Auckland Campus, we were met by Bryan and guided to one of their larger lecture theatres for presentations from key lecturers and a tour of their facilities.
Finally, we headed north back to Whangarei and Kerikeri with a lot of very tired but inspired students. Find out more about Auckland tertiary study options…
